BUYERS GUIDE

Ripe for the picking

Picking the perfect watermelon is a simple three-step process. 1: Look at the melon to check for cuts and bruises. 2: Lift the melon to check its weight (a ripe melon should be 92% water, making it heavy). 3: Turn the melon over to find the creamy yellow spot that indicates full ripeness. Thump. Slice. Crunch. Smile.
